Abstract

Poverty has remained one of the most persistent and complex socio-economic challenges throughout human history, affecting individuals and societies across all eras and civilizations. In contemporary times, particularly in developing countries such as Pakistan, poverty has emerged as a critical issue that threatens social stability, economic development, and human dignity. Poverty is not merely the absence of financial resources; rather, it represents a multidimensional deprivation that includes lack of access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and basic human dignity.

This research paper provides an analytical study of the significance of Infaq fi Sabi Lillah (spending in the way of Allah) in the eradication of poverty and its broader social impacts in light of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The study highlights that Islam presents a comprehensive socio-economic framework in which poverty alleviation is not left to individual effort alone but is structured through obligatory and voluntary financial mechanisms such as Zakat, Sadaqat, Waqf, and other forms of charitable spending. The paper demonstrates that the Prophetic model established in Madinah introduced practical institutions such as Bait-ul-Mal and the system of brotherhood (Mu’akhah) between Muhajirin and Ansar, which collectively contributed to economic stability and social welfare. Furthermore, the study emphasizes that Infaq not only redistributes wealth but also enhances economic productivity by increasing demand, stimulating production, and ensuring equitable circulation of resources within society. From a social perspective, Infaq fosters solidarity, cooperation, and social justice while reducing inequality and strengthening communal bonds. It also promotes moral and spiritual development by encouraging moderation, discouraging extravagance, and cultivating empathy toward the less privileged.

In conclusion, the study asserts that the Islamic concept of Infaq offers a holistic and sustainable approach to poverty alleviation, social moral, and spiritual dimensions into a unified framework that ensures both individual welfare and collective prosperity.
