Abstract

This article discusses the means for graduates of Islamic Madaris to secure a respectable livelihood without compromising their religious duties. Drawing guidance from the Qur'anic verse encouraging specialization in religious education, the article highlights the divine emphasis on nurturing scholars who can guide the community. However, due to systemic limitations and lack of governmental support, many Madaris graduates face financial hardships despite their essential role. The article advocates that religious scholars must proactively seek lawful sources of income while maintaining their independence and dignity, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It outlines opportunities both within governmental sectors such as teaching positions, religious services in institutions, and other educational roles and private sectors, including freelance religious services and skills like calligraphy, computer typing, and entrepreneurship. Emphasizing the prophetic tradition of self-reliance, the article encourages Madaris graduates to engage in permissible work, thereby strengthening their ability to serve the faith effectively while also meeting their worldly needs.
