Abstract

Da'wah is an important duty of Islam and the prime duty of this Ummah. 
According to commentators, this Ummah has been declared to be the best ummah, based on Da'wah (Amr bi al-Mruf and Nahi an al-Munkar). Da'wah will not be effective unless it is given in accordance with the principles that Allah has revealed. Allah has described its principles in the numerous places of Quran however, a comprehensive detail about “Al-Hikmah”, “Al-Mau’iza al Hasana” and “Mujadila Hasana” has been given in verse 125 of Surah Al-Nahl. In this article, the first and basic principle of Da'wah i.e. "Hikmah" will be discussed, which is pointed out first in this verse, what is the literal and contextual meaning of Hikmah, where in the Quran this word is mentioned and In the eyes of the commentators and especially Sayyid Qutb, what is Hikmah and what are its requirements in the context of today?
