Lamaʿāt al-Tanqīh Fi Sharh Meškāt al-maṣābīḥ by Shaykh ʿAbd-AlḤaqq Dehlavī: An Introductory Study

Abstract

This article delves into two significant collections of Islamic hadiths: Meškāt almaṣābīḥ and Lamaat al-Tanqih.The focus opens with Meškāt al-maṣābīḥ, compiled by Khatib Al-Tabrizi, which expands upon the earlier collection of Masabih al-Sunnah by Imam Al-Baghawi. Notably, Meškāt al-maṣābīḥ draws from renowned sources like the six Sahih (Sahih al-Sittah) collections, encompassing a total of 5945 hadiths. Next, the article introduces Lamaat al-Tanqih, authored by the prominent scholar Shaykh ʿabd-Al-Ḥaqq Dehlavī. This work serves as a comprehensive Arabic commentary on Meškāt al-maṣābīḥ, offering detailed explanations and valuable insights into the included hadiths. In essence, the article provides a concise overview of these two crucial resources used in the study and 
understanding of Islamic hadiths.‘Mishkat al-Masabih’ included 5945 hadiths, this collection of hadiths is the completion of ‘Masabih al-Sunnah’, which is the addition of 4434 hadiths of ‘Masabih alSunnah’, including 1511 more hadiths. Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Tabrizi 
(D.741 H), the well-known book ‘Mishkaat al-Masabih’, has been compiled for public use by collecting the most common hadiths from ‘Al-Sihah al-Sittah’. Abd al-Haqq (Muhaddith) al-Dehlawi (1642 AD/1052 AH) is one of the leading Muhaddith scholars in India. He spent more than half a century researching, teaching, and studying the mysteries and commandments of the Quran and Hadith. Along with this, he spent his life writing and compiling books on important topics such as Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, 'Aqeedah, Ethics, History, and Philosophy. In the book on each topic, important research problems and rare scientific points were written comprehensively. Among his academic services, especially the promotion and publication of the knowledge of Hadith.
