The dignity and honor of every Muslim are held in the highest esteem according to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Defending a Muslim from false allegations, particularly when they concern the Companions (Ṣaḥābah) and the Tābiʿīn, is regarded as a religious obligation. Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah has often been portrayed as a cruel ruler and as the killer of Husain, a portrayal that may lead to indirect accusations against the Companions of the Holy Prophet.
The methodology adopted in this study is descriptive in nature. Through this research, attempts are made to address complex questions and clarify various allegations directed against the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. In the same context, the actual status of Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah is examined in the light of the statements and guidance of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is also highlighted that the Companions were in consensus regarding the rulership of Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah. Furthermore, both prophetic narrations and historical geographical evidence clearly identify the perpetrators responsible for the martyrdom of Husain.
