Abstract

Islamic feminism, emerging as a significant movement advocating for Muslim women's rights and gender equality, seeks to challenge traditional Islamic interpretations by offering new perspectives. This movement aims to address gender disparities while staying true to Islamic principles, presenting interpretations rooted in justice and equality based on the Quran and Sunnah. Notable scholars like Amina Wadud and Kecia Ali, whose theories are comparatively analyzed in this article, argue for gender equality within an Islamic framework. Wadud emphasizes contextual and experiential factors in
Quranic interpretation, while Ali critiques gender biases in Islamic jurisprudence. This article examines their views on gender roles, marriage, and sexuality, highlighting their contributions to the ongoing debates within Islamic feminism.
